Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between chewing discomfort and nutrient intake in elderly Korean women. Methods: A complex sample design analysis method was applied using data from the 2022 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to confirm the relationship between chewing discomfort and nutrient intake, nutrient density, nutritional quality index, and nutrient intake ratio. Results: In both groups, the nutritional performance index and various optimal intake ratios for vitamin A, vitamin C, niacin, and lumps were in the range of 1.0 or less, which were relevant to the variation in chewing discomfort. Conclusions: To manage masticatory function for balanced nutrient intake in elderly women, interest in and management of oral health is necessary.
