Abstract

Piroxicam is a highly active long-acting drug. This compound was first synthesized at the Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry SB RAS. This paper was aimed at studying the specific activity, pharmacokinetics, and gastrotoxicity of piroxicam in the form of tablets, including enteric-coated tablets. The experiments were carried out on white outbred sexually mature rats of both sexes. The drugs were administered orally using an atrau-matic probe. The studies were carried out in accordance with the guidelines on preclini-cal study of drugs. These studies showed a high anti-inflammatory activity of piroxicam in the form of enteric tablets. The use of this dosage form can reduce the ulcerogenic effect of the drug, but does not reduce its specific activity and bioavailability. Therefore, the further development, creation and introduction of the original dosage form of domestic piroxicam come today at an opportune time.
