Abstract
Hanbok in association with national emotion and native grace represents the traditional costume culture and it can be regarded as an inspirational source for establishment and development of a nation"s cultural identity. This study aims at developing different textile pattern designs and applying them to fashion cultural products by applying motifs from hanbok. For the research method, multi examinations were carried out with a literature review on hanbok, preference survey about basic motif design, and empirical examination of fashion design and fashion cultural products. The results of the studies are as follows: basic motif design was developed into seven types including samhoejang coat, dangui, wonsam, combined form with dangui and skirts, combined form with saekdong coat and skirts, baeja, and men"s pants. The schematized simplicity of costume enabled expression of the unique formative beauty of each item. Each basic motif extended into two types of different colors and through which various methods of the color arrangement were adopted with 5-color set obang, gray and brown series so that coordination with traditional image and modern sense could be harmonized. A total of 36-pattern designs were analyzed and applied to handkerchief and scarf, which further turned out to be the preference items, suggesting the applicability for fashion cultural products.
