Abstract

This study aimed to identify factors influencing the awareness of disaster preparedness of long-term care hospital employees. Data was collected from 268 participants from six institutes located in the Seoul Metropolitan area from May 11 to May 30, 2019. Their awareness level of disaster preparedness was 4.32 out of 5. Evacuation and personal protective equipment were considered the most important aspects of disaster preparedness. Resilience and job satisfaction were above average. Resilience was positively correlated with awareness of disaster preparedness and job satisfaction (p < .001). Factors influencing awareness of disaster preparedness were “support” of resilience sub-factors and disaster education. The explaining power was 12.9%. In conclusion, individual resilience and disaster education influence the awareness of disaster preparedness of long-term care hospital employees. Future studies should identify the status of their disaster education and develop a program to improve their resilience and accreditation guidelines to ensure their disaster preparedness.
