Abstract

The paper criticizes unilateral interpretations of interrelation of philosophy and freedom as unambiguously stable (natural). To achieve deeper understanding of interrelation of philosophy and freedom, the author proposes an approach presupposing separation of philosophy into contrasting types - absolutist and non-absolutist ones - that suggest entirely different interpretations of freedom. Absolutist philosophizing absolutizes freedom identifying it with “true rationality” (spirituality, etc.). Non-absolutist philosophizing considers freedom as a relative characteristic of human life restricted by other relative characteristics (justice, etc.).
