Abstract
This study was conducted to identify core cognitive factors of creativity and to develop the Creative Cognition Rating Scale (CCRS). In Study 1, core factors of creativity were extracted by reviewing previous review articles dealing with creative cognition, and items based on the factors were developed by reflecting the relationship between creativity and cognitive control. The result of the exploratory factor analysis showed that the two-factor structure with 9 items for 'Exploration/Retrieval' and 5 items for 'Switching/Combination' was valid for the scale. The subsequent confirmatory factor analysis reconfirmed the two-factor structure of the CCRS. In Study 2, the validity of CCRS was verified using self-report scales and behavioral tasks. As a result of correlation analysis between self-report scales, CCRS showed a significant positive correlation with the ability of creative idea generation, creative personality, and creative achievement intention. Also, CCRS was highly related to cognitive control scales. In addition, the analysis using the Alternative Uses Tasks, the behavioral tasks of creativity, showed that each factor of CCRS was related to creativity scores in different ways. These results suggested that the new scale would be an effective and valid tool for evaluating different cognitive components of creativity. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
