He is deposed by his brother, who is aided by Alonso. This play’s protagonist, Prospero uses his magic to create an atmosphere of forgiveness. Prospero pardons his old enemies as well as his own brother’s betrayal. He regains his lost dukedom from his brother, Antonio. There is a theme of acceptance and reconciliation which is dominant in this play. Prospero finally abandons his love of magic. He breaks his staff and buries it in the earth. He also drowns his book of magic in the sea. At the end of the play, he retires at the height of his power and renounces his absolute power.
