Abstract
The article presents the social structure progress of the population of Shirak region in the end of XX century and the beginning of the XXI century. The paper highlights the demographic, educational and professional characteristics of social structure changes of the population of the region. After Armenia gained independence and the USSR was collapsed, the policy pursued by the new authorities in our country, including in Shirak region, arose a process of privatization of state property, formation of public education-owners of means of production and hired labor, during which new polarized classes appear in society the riches, the middle class, the poor and the beggers. Annually, the number of employable and unemployable people is decreasing,due to it the percent of retirement age in population is increasing, which creates tension not only in the labor market, but also increases social charges allocated by goverment.
