Abstract

The article is revealing the constructive and partly the decorative features of the interior cladding details in the early 20th century. The identification of these features is carried out on the basis of an analysis of the designs of interior decoration details made by the Meltzer factory for the mansions of V. Kochubey and F. Bazhanov in St. Petersburg. The article is based on field studies of the beginning of the 20th century, as well as on the analysis of archival documents reflecting the activities of the factory. The factors that had an influence at the forms and decorations during this period are considered. The author gives the examples of the new technologies, based on the using of the machines. The article includes the examples of the new view at the decoration of the interiors and its decorative features. We can approve, that the stylistic features had been formulated quite clear in this period. The possibilities of the new machine production of the decorative details were taken into account. The factories were equipped with libraries, design workshops, and machine parks, so not only the amount, but also the quality of the pieces of furniture and decorative details of the interiors were sharply increased.
