Abstract
In this article, the most important parts of Pashko Vasa’s biography are identified to explain his role as one of the leading ideologues of Albanian nationalism. Foremost, various memoranda on the Albanian Question written during the Great Eastern Crisis (1875–1878), with Vasa as the author or signer, are analysed. After that, the analysis of his book Albania and Albanians (1879) is given. Special attention is devoted to the parts in which the differences between the Albanians and their neighbours are underlined and to the ideas that would become an important part of the discourse of Albanian nationalism since the late 19th century. Also, by analysing several additional Vasa’s works, the importance of his legacy is pointed out.
