Abstract

The Korean Taekkyon Federation organizes a performance, 『Nonverbal Taekkyon Performance Taekkyon Arirang Lyeon(連)』, for which a traditional martial art, Taekkyon, dance, geomungo, and performance costumes are combined, and performed in various countries around the world. This study, investigates the design process that transformed costumes for the fusion performance by focusing on the performance costumes of Taekkyon Arirang Lyeon’. The study first contemplates the development of the traditional Taekkyon costume, along with its meaning and historical. Second, the study analyzes the synopsis stage direction, and character of the performance motion that is the fusion of Taekkyon and dance. Third, the study analyzes the costume design process by producing a real costume and finally presenting performance photos. This study is meaningful because it traditional Korean cultural contents to performance costume design in a fusion based on traditional costume.
