Abstract
The anisotropy of the elastic and photoelastic properties of calcium molybdate crystals has been studied for Bragg diffraction of light by longitudinal acoustic waves propagating in the (001) plane. It is shown that the efficiency of the acousto-optic interaction can be characterizedby the introduced acousto-optic efficiency coefficient, which is determined from the elasticand photoelastic constants of the crystal. A strong dependence of the coefficients of the acousto-optic quality and the acousto-optic efficiency on the direction of propagation of acousticwaves in the investigated plane is revealed.
