Abstract

This paper applies a consensus alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) for the economic dispatch problem in a multi-region system with renewable energy. The proposed algorithm decides the optimal generation of each area including consensus buses, and calculates the average generation of consensus buses at each iteration. The solutions from consensus ADMM are compared with the Newton-Raphson method, demonstrating superior performance because it only uses the local information. Furthermore, the privacy of each system operator can be guaranteed.
