Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to shed light on development of studying the Yakut circle dance ‘оhуохай’ on the basis of works published from the 1990s to the early 2000s. The research is novel in that it is the first to raise the question of development of studying the Yakut circle dance by historical periods. Such an analysis makes it possible to consider the selected genre in the diachronic perspective. As a result, it is found that the range of scientific fields that consider the functioning of the Yakut circular dance was expanding in that period. There emerged an independent branch, ethnic pedagogy, which addresses the issues of transfer and preservation of the circle dance. During that period, the Yakuts’ circle dance was primarily called ‘оhуохай’.
