Abstract

The research aims to identify the structural-semantic variants of the plot about the fallen woman formed in the literature of the 1840s-1860s. The study describes the borderline plot “courtesan” involved in the field of plot formation. The paper explores the emergence, dynamic interaction and transformation of plot variants. The basic structure of the plot about the fallen woman, the process of its consolidation in “strong” texts and the practice of its reproduction in belles-lettres are highlighted and analysed. The influence of social issues on the choice of ethical emphases, plot themes, ways of converting a real picture of life into a literary one are considered. Scientific originality is determined by the subjectological approach to the traditional historical-literary study of the plot, which makes it possible to describe the peculiarities of the plot’s inclusion in the literary and social process and the plot repertoire of the mid-19th century. As a result of the research, the basic structure of the plot about the fallen woman and its main variants entrenched in N. A. Nekrasov’s, N. G. Chernyshevsky’s and F. M. Dostoevsky’s works have been determined. Using extensive material, the researcher has shown the ways of accumulation of structural elements of the plot developed in belles-lettres.
