Abstract

This study examines the characteristics of Rihla Literature and analyzes the works of Ibn Jubayr and Ibn Battuta in the Middle Ages to find out the route of Hajj, the appearance of Mecca, and the procedure of Hajj in the 12th-14th centuries Medieval Muslim traveled to various destinaions, and their records led to the development of “Rihla literature.” These works are evaluated as important historical sources. This study aims to examine the appearance of medieval Hajj through the analysis of the works of two representative writers. Through the analysis, this study finds the Hajj routes, the adversities they experienced, the appearance of the Mecca at the time, and pilgrimage procedures.
