Abstract

5 new towns of Seoul metropolitan area and long-term public rental housing began to be supplied in Korea around 1990, but now it is necessary to furnish the direction and strategy for the housing estate. And we are expecting to problems a low fertility and aging populations, and increasing of 1-2 person households. The purpose of this study is to analysis Renaissance Project1 of Urban Renaissance Agency in Japan for housing stock renewal and utilization. The results are follows. Firstly, Improvement of the housing environment is changed by methods of not build and scrap but housing stock renewal and utilization. Secondly, There are various method for housing stock renewal and utilization such as reduction, extension, improvement, conversion, environment & energy saving. And also Renaissance Project1 was very effective for improve to social interest and recognition for composition of housing stock's renewal discourse. Thirdly, we have to ready for housing respond to rapid demographic changes and secular changes such as Japan. The results of this study are expected to serve as to the future direction of sustainable conversion in Korea.
