Abstract

Objective of the study is to find out the attitude of modern Russian engineers to their profession in order to understand what makes their professional choice sustainable, what is the attractiveness of their chosen profession for them. The methodological basis of the research. The study was conducted within the framework of a qualitative strategy based on the analysis of semi-formalized interviews of different generations of representatives of engineering professions working in various industries. As a method of collecting data analysis, content analysis was used with an emphasis on its qualitative component, which deeply reveals the content of respondents' statements with all the nuances. Research results. As a result of the data analysis, sets of value orientations were obtained that were significant for the respondents' professional choice, and, based on them, the motives for this choice. Recommendations were also given for the development of state policy on the formation of a new generation of professional group of Russian engineers. Prospects of the study are related to the development of a policy of attracting and educating a new generation of professional engineers with a stable professional choice. In the mass media, it is necessary to provide more information and artistic materials that create an image of the engineering profession as a creative creative activity that solves interesting and important tasks for social progress, which are in demand and appreciated by society. To create an attractive image of an engineer as an interesting, creative, versatile personality, intelligent, well-educated, purposeful, engaged in an exciting business that raises society to a new level.
