Abstract

Purpose: This study is aimed at preparing basic data that needed for improving Team-Based Learning (TBL) teaching strategies for Korea Armed Forces Nursing Academy Cadets. For that purpose, this study investigated cadets'' TBL experiences in core curriculum. Methods: This study was a Colaizzi''s phenomenological qualitative study using individual in-depth interviews, data were collected from 7 cadets with experiences in taking Adult Nursing Classes using TBL in nursing care for patients with cardiovascular disorder. Results: The 6 categories of ''Fulfilling one''s responsibility in class preparation'', ''Being engaged in discussion only for better academic grades'', ''Becoming a creator of collective intelligence'', ''Being self-directed and fair in-class participation'', ''Never-ending relationship with a team member'', and ''Being uncertain for not having core knowledge in cardiovascular nursing'' were obtained. Conclusion: Contextual uniqueness in which KAFNA cadets live as well as common phenomena that usual TBL learners experience have been explored. This study has value as a scientific basis to develop educational strategies for faculty who hold TBL classes at KAFNA in the future.
