Abstract

The article considers the location of Mairamykau settlement (“Mary’s settlement”). The famous Mozdok icon of the Mother of God was near that settlement in one of the medieval Alanian churches. Comparing information contained in the sources, the author identifies two mountain settlements with such a name; each of them is associated with the pre-Mozdok period of the icon history. The researcher ascertains its route across Alania - Ossetia before removal to Mozdok in 1795. The localization of Mairamykau settlement is important for further studies on the history of Christianity in Alania.
