Abstract

The article discusses the special personal traits of amateur translators and points out the common and the individual characteristics thereof. Based on the data received from the author’s interviews with amateurs and the results of previous similar research, a conclusion is drawn that the most powerful motivating factors for the respondents are desire to help people who do not speak a certain language, urge to share some information with them, and the unfulfilment of their own needs as translation consumers. Still, the differences in amateurs’ backgrounds and the countless number of these translators hinder the highlighting of common features for the entire class
