Abstract

It is a kind of memoirs. The author, using his historical professional skills, presents the reconstruction his family’s fate in the historic context of the first half of the 20th century. Personal biographies are inscribed in the history of Georgia from the collapse of the Russian Empire to the gradual establishment of a totalitarian regime between two world wars. Particular attention is paid to the fate of the intelligentsia of Abkhazia during the total terror of the 1930s in the Georgian SSR and its autonomous republic of Abkhazia. Information about the tragic fate of individual victims of state terrorism helps to grasp deeper the scope and content of political repression under totalitarianism. A personal view of the events almost a century ago has brought it closer to the present.
