Abstract

In this paper, we quantitatively reviewed the formal characteristics of 2,160 press releases which were produced by 45 central administrative agencies from 2018 to 2019. The findings are as follows. First, the formal characteristics of press releases are classified into macro feature(e.g. method of paragraph representation, usage of subtitle, method of subtitle representation, usage of summary) and micro feature(method of important information representation, method of reference information representation, sentence type of body of press release). Second, from the perspective of macro feature of press release, it is interesting that there are many press releases which use only one subtitle, more than one special label, without summary. Third, from the perspective of micro feature of press release, it is interesting that there are many press releases which use bold font to represent important information, special label to represent reference information, use ending ‘-ta’. Considering these facts, we confirmed that the formal characteristics of the press releases made in 2018 and 2019 are very similar to the press release standard, which National Institute of Korean Language suggested in 2020.
