Abstract

Universities are called to change. Universities are facing crises such as the technological
environment, changes in the industrial environment, and the decline in the school-age
population, and these crises are expected to worsen, which calls for constitutional
improvements rather than a piecemeal response. Traditionally, universities have played an
important role in teaching, research and industry-academia cooperation. In recent years,
however, it has been given a third role, 'the economic role of universities,' and is striving
to transform itself into an entrepreneurial university. An entrepreneurial university is a
university that contributes to the country and region by utilizing the resources of the
university and ensuring sustainability based on entrepreneurship.
Despite the importance of entrepreneurial universities, domestic research is still in its
infancy, and it is difficult to find a study that identifies the components of entrepreneurial
universities and the current status of universities.
In this study, the components of entrepreneurial universities are derived from previous
research. The current status of universities is determined through in-depth interviews and
expert surveys, and the results are presented, followed by discussions over ways for the
 transformation into an entrepreneurial university.
