Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study was to (1) describe the content of available physical activity apps, (2) evaluate their quality regarding engagement, functionality, aesthetics, information and behavioral change techniques. Methods: For this study, Content analysis was performed on 34 apps using key content identified based on pilot test. Also, 4 experts used the Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS) to evaluate the quality of physical activity apps. Results: As a result of the research, many motivational contents were satisfied though Community and sharing, as well as behavioral changes in goal and planning settings. There were many low-score apps in the quality assessment of apps. Conclusions: This study presented direction in the development of future physical activity apps. It is necessary to develop contents that can enhance physical activity based on engagement, functionality, aesthetics, and information in the future.
