Abstract

Based on the corpus survey, this paper attempted to reveal the difference between the meaning of ′Gaoxing′ and ′Kaixin′ using the cognitive semantic perspective. A total of six aspects of confrontation are as follows.BR First of all, ′Gaoxing′ is the joyous, welcoming and touching feeling that good news brings to the experiencer. And it′s also a good emotional state with no concrete motivation. On the other hand, ′Kaixin′ is the pleasant, comfortable feeling that an experiencer feels during the process of doing something he or she likes. And these emotions may be caused by the same motivation as ′Gaoxing′.BR The causing objects of ′Gaoxing′ are ′news′, ′results′, ′progress′, ′achievements′, ′success′, ′changes′, ′special gifts′ and so on, while ′Kaixin′ are ′laughter′, ′singing′, ′meeting′, ′party′, ′joking′, ′game′, ′amusement park′, ′magic show′ and so on.BR With regard to the physical and behavioral responses, which are a metonymic aspect, ′Gaoxing′ has shown that it is relatively typical and faster to cause any quick immediate relative to ′Kaixin′ and is stronger than ′Kaixin′ in terms of the intensity of the motion that is induced.BR Through metaphorical conceptualization, we can see that ′Gaoxing′ is a powerful momentary emotion that is unsuppressed, uncontrolled, or unstoppable, but ′Kaixin′ has not proved to be as uncontrollable as ′Gaoxing′. In addition, unlike ′Gaoxing′, ′Kaixin′ has been conceptualized as something that can be learned from studying and can be purchasedBR The parallel concepts showed that ′Gaoxing′ was an emotional state related to ′excitement′, ′surprise′, ′happiness′ and ′unexpected good news′, while ′Kaixin′ turned out to be a ′relaxed′, ′pleasant′, ′mental relaxation′,′light-hearted′, ′stress-free′, and ′refreshing′.BR Finally, the meaning terms of ′Gaoxing′ and ′Kaixin′ were distinguished. In addition, the phrase ′Wanr de Gaoxing′ has the typical meaning of playing with high intensity of fun, concentrating and indulging. ′Wanr de Kaixin′ has the focus of meaning in playing ′comfortably′ and ′joyfully′ and ′freely′.
