The purpose is to consider theoretical approaches to the study of social and labor relations in their historical development both abroad and in domestic science and present them in relation to the conditions of the transforming social and professional sphere of the modern Russian society. The achievements of Soviet scientific thought in terms of organization, work culture, influence of external and internal factors on labor relations, as well as study of the workers’ reaction and influence of interpersonal relations in the team are highlighted. The article presents the prerequisites and historical continuity of theoretical scientific thought in the analysis of the nature of social and labor relations and their correlation with the observed social reality. The role of social and labor functions and actual typologies of relations in modern conditions are considered separately. Contradictions in labor relations are revealed against the background of modern problems of regional labor markets. As a result, it is summarized that social and labor relations have changed, developed and transformed under the influence of socio-historical realities, but labor values remained and still remain the regulator of the employee's labor behavior, and their study will improve both the efficiency of social and labor relations and all labor activity.
