Abstract
The authors consider the issues of examination of mammoth tusks intended for export to classify them as cultural values. Mammoth tusks are a valuable export commodity, the extraction of which involves thousands of households in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. At the same time, some of the tusks have undeniable scientific and, therefore, cultural value. The article examines the shortcomings of current regulations governing the assessment of mammoth tusks in terms of their cultural value, as well as cultural value of special significance. The authors identify characteristics by which the examination of tusks due to be carried out, taking into account their scientific and corresponding cultural value.
