Abstract

This meta-analysis study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of after-school physical activity programs. A total of 24 studies published from 2000 through 2016 were selected. The results are as follows: First, the overall average effect size value based on the random effect model was 1.136, and it was positive and median effect. Secondly, effect sizes were compared in regard to moderator variables including participant characteristics, physical activity type, dependent variable type, study design. As a result, school level, period of physical activity, and the number of group were moderator variables that explain the differences in effect sizes. Based on these findings, implications for future research and program implementation were discussed.
