Abstract

The article considers the “bull” as a natural and artistic phenomenon, basing on numerous folklore and mythological, literary, cinematic texts, as well as on authors’ cognitive memory. The study aims to ascertain that the image of the “bull” can have multiple meanings, depending on ethnocultural and civilizational factors. The work is novel in that it is the first to examine evolutionary path of the “bull” as an archetypal image in diachronic context with involvement of gnoseological capabilities of not only literature but also adjacent philological disciplines. The attained results demonstrate a wide variable range in interpretation of the animalistic image, accounted for by the level of the mankind’s ecological culture.
