Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among sports activity participation enjoyment, self-esteem and resilience for the middle school students. To achieve the goal of this study, a total of 200 questionnaires were distributed and 200 copies were collected back. Out of those returned questionnaires, insincerely replied or double-replied questionnaires were excluded and finally 179 questionnaires were analyzed for this study. The data were analyzed by frequency analysis, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling using SPSS Version 18.0. and Amos 18.0 program. Main findings were as follows: First, sports activity participation enjoyment had a positive effect on self-esteem. Second, self-esteem had a positive effect on resilience. Third, sports activity participation enjoyment had a positive effect on resilience. Fourth, self-esteem mediated the relationship between sports activity participation enjoyment and resilience. Therefore, in order to enhance the resilience of middle school students, various teaching methods should be sought so that they can enjoy sports activities, and furthermore, it is judged that a diversified psychological support program that can improve self-esteem is needed.
