Abstract

The article discusses the features of the traditional Kyrgyz society. It is noted that the nature of gender relations was influenced by the nomadic way of being, the tribal, patriarchal nature of the Kyrgyz society. Particular attention is paid to the social roles of women and men in the division of labour, gender characteristics in customary law, peculiarities of inheritance law, etiquette proxemics in the kinship system and traditional games. The author notes that the patterns of male and female behaviour were laid down in the institution of the family. In the traditional Kyrgyz society, a man being a husband and a father, then subsequently a son had indisputable absolute authority. All family members unquestionably obeyed the head of the family - a man. The material, moral and psychological environment completely depended on the husband.
