Abstract

Purpose: For remanufactured military parts, design a design for reliability (DFR) program based on the reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) management program may be ineffective. Therefore, a case study of the DFR is desirable to demonstrate its reliability in the context of remanufactured military power supply.BRMethods: A DFR program and elements were developed for a remanufactured military power supply. The DFR program was realized through reliability target establishment, environmental condition analysis, reliability modeling (through Reliability Block Diagrams, RBDs), failure mode and root cause analysis, and reliability prediction.BRResults: The target MTBF of the remanufactured military power supply was determined to be 13,800 hrs. The reliability prediction was conducted based on MIL-HDBK-217 at room temperature (25℃) and high temperatures (85℃and 100℃) under a naval sheltered environment by using PTC Windchill Quality Solutions (formerly RELEX). The predicted MTBFs were 809,189 hrs, 460,954 hrs, and 382,642 hrs at 25℃, 85℃, and 100℃, respectively. Therefore, the predicted MTBFs could ensure the target MTBF of 13,800 hrs.BRConclusion: A case study of the DFR was performed on a remanufactured military power supply by using the military RAM management program.
