Abstract

The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effect of achievement motivation in the relationship between parental parenting attitude and career preparation perceived by multicultural high school students to make policy and academic suggestions for career preparation of multicultural adolescents. The subjects of the study were 1,197 multicultural high school students who participated in the 8th Multicultural Adolescents Panel Survey (MAPS). For the analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and three-stage mediated regression analysis proposed by Baron and Kenny were conducted. As a result of the study, first, it was found that the parenting attitude perceived by multicultural adolescents had a significant effect on the motivation for achievement. Second, it was found that the parental parenting attitude and achievement motivation perceived by multicultural adolescents had a significant effect on career preparation. Third, achievement motivation was identified as a significant parameter in the relationship between parental parenting attitude and career preparation perceived by multicultural adolescents. Based on the results of the study, measures were proposed to check parents' parenting attitudes and develop practical programs for positive interaction, as well as to inspire achievement motivation of multicultural adolescents.
