Abstract

Direct numerical and large eddy simulations of a fully developed turbulent channel flow have been performed to disclose an influence of velocity interpolation at inlet boundary on turbulent characteristics. Time dependent turbulent inflow data were obtained from inflow generation simulations and imposed at inlet boundary of main simulations. Because the presence of grid mismatch between the inflow generation and the main simulations required a spatial interpolation, the influence of the velocity interpolation based on Delaunay triangulation in OpenFOAM was discussed. While the streamwise mean velocity and turbulence intensities were insignificantly affected by the velocity interpolation at the inlet boundary, the streamwise distribution of friction velocity was found to be recovered after 12δ downstream in the present study.
