Abstract

The study aims to identify specific features of the colouristic system of metaphors existing in the modern political discourse of the Federal Republic of Germany. The article analyses the structural and semantic features of colour images, specificity of their colouristic spectrum, objectifying the changes occurring in Germany’s party political field, and the reasons that prompted them. Scientific novelty of the work lies in using the cognitive-discursive approach to studying metaphorical colour nominations in the format of the following narrative: “The 2019 elections to the landtags of the Federal Republic of Germany and the process of forming state coalition governments”. The attained results have shown that complex structural and semantic capacity of colouristic images and activation of the brown colour objectify the issue of political “weakness” of the traditional German party establishment and broad support provided by the German voters to the ultra-right party “AfD”.
