Through this survey, we not only investigated a new batch of Koguryeo mountain cities, but also corrected the previous misrecords of specific mountain cities, reconfirming whether the disputed Koguryeo mountain city is a Koguryeo mountain city.
As a report on the results of a five-year survey of Koguryeo Mountain City by the Academia of North Korea, this paper will divided the Koguryeo mountain cities along the northern east coast into two parts: Hamgyǒngbuk-do(咸鏡北道), Hamgyungnam-do and Gangwon-do in North Korea (北江 原道) to introduce them.
The first part will introduce the Fortress on Mt Untou (雲頭山城) in the region of Hamgyǒngbuk-do and the Fortress on Mt Baegun (白雲山城), the Fortress on Mt Gayeong (加應山城) in Hamgyungnam-do which played an important role in the defense of Goguryeo in the northeast.
