Abstract

Dethronement of monarchy, political perturbations in the Civil War period provided the possibilities for new economic relations in the country, including the creation of cooperatives. Previously unknown documents throw light on the process of the formation, legal arrangement and development of early northern consumers’ cooperatives. The article identifies the basic stages of cooperation development, describes the realia of co-operators’ everyday life and the problems they came across in the early period. The activity of Laryak consumers’ cooperative “Vakh” serves as an example.
