Abstract

Young dancers are at a higher risk of developing body image distortion. Weight control practices are common in dancers. The aim of this research was to examine the factors such as eating behaviors and weight control practices among different dances. Subjects were control group(CG, n=33), Korean dancers(KG, n=30), ballet dancers(BG, n=20), dance sports dancers(DG, n=20). Questionnaire included general characteristics, eating attitudes, behaviors, and weight control behavior. The Chi-square(x²) and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data.BR Higher risk of eating attitudes and behaviors were not obtained among dancers. Significant differences among dancers of a self-image and the relation between weight and condition were found. Most dancers had a tendency to see themselves thinner than they would like to be. Thus, this could induce negative impact on the health and condition in dancers.
