Abstract
The article discusses the main legal mechanisms that ensure the preservation of the urban heritage of St. Petersburg. The correlation of various security mechanisms is carried out. Such concepts as the united zones of protection of cultural heritage objects, the historical settlement of St. Petersburg, historical buildings and others have been analyzed. The conclusion is made about the necessity of the planned development of the megalopolis with the simultaneous preservation of its historical and cultural heritage.
