Abstract

The relevance of the research lies in the fact that the information and communication environment of the Internet is a highly insecure space, where there are ethno-confessional conflicts and social tensions that require special study. This article is based on the materials of a number of field studies conducted by the research team during 2019–2021, in particular, monitoring of thematic Internet communities of ethnic orientation, interviews with representatives of extremist communities, with representatives of radical movements in Islam, as well as with representatives of radical subcultures of a racist orientation. The authors conclude that the main factors that influenced the formation of a personality prone to xenophobia were social deprivation, economic disadvantage and cultural marginalization of the environment in which the person grew up. Ethnic, linguistic, religious diversity contains prerequisites for the emergence of discrimination and conflictogenicity.
