Abstract
The article deals with the problems of improving the procedural status of the head of the investigative body. Attention is drawn to the fact that the appearance of the procedural figure of this participant is also due to a change in the concept of the preliminary investigation body itself. Such a body should now be considered not an investigator, but a collective procedural figure that includes the investigator and the head of the investigative body.

Summary
The article deals with the problems of improving the procedural status of the head of the investigative body. Подобный подход весьма заметно проявляет себя и при размышлениях о совершенствовании уголовно-процессуального статуса руководителя следственного органа. Общая стратегия совершенствования процессуального статуса руководителя следственного органа в уголовно-процессуальной науке особо четко не прослеживается. И получается, для того чтобы понять тенденции и закономерности, свойственные научному поиску совершенства процессуального статуса руководителя следственного органа, необходимо провести ревизию недостатков, которые констатируют современные исследователи.
