Abstract
We analyzed the status of legally protected species and specially designated species by various government departments for the protection of biodiversity and use of biological resources in Korea. These protected species can be classified into protected species, endemic species, subject to the approval of outbound transfer, harmful species, Permission to act, and Specially designated species. The status of designation of each legally designated species is as follows. Endangered Wildlife 267 species, Natural Monuments 463 species, Species subject to Special Forest Conservation 53 species, Rare plant 571 species, Marine organisms under protection 80 species, Red data book 8,033 species, Endemic species 2,289 species, Native plant 360 species, Biological resources subject to the approval of outbound transfer 5,814 species, Approval for exporting marine fishery bio-resources 1,475 species, Forest life resources subject to the approval of outbound transfer 1,197 species, Agricultural life resources subject to the approval of outbound transfer 2,101 species, Species of concern for domestic inflow 300 species, Species with potential risks to the ecosystem 2 species, Ecosystem-disturbing species 34 species, Harmful wild animal 7 cases, Harmful marine organisms 17 species, Organisms disturbing marine ecosystems 1 species, Major forest pest 15 species, Wild animals forbidden to eat 31 species, Wild animals able to hunt in a hunting ground shall 16 species, Wildlifes subject to the approval hunting and collecting for artificial reproduction 12 species, Prohibited wildlifes such as capture and collecting 478 species, Climate-sensitive Biological Indicator species 100 species, Cultivated Plants 358 species, Alien Plants 382 species, Marine mammals 41 species, Migratory marine animals 4 species.
