Abstract

This paper examines the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics, showing that poetic language of literature has a place in cognitive metaphor study. Far from being merely a matter of words, metaphor is a matter of thought, all kinds of thought: thought about emotion, about society, about human character, and about the nature of life and death. Also metaphor in the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics brought many changes to concepts about matter and gave many methods to the study of consciousness. Classical science had limits in the methods of observation and describing, but quantum and theory of relativity mechanics overcomes these limitations and describes matter and consciousness as two aspects of one thing. On the contrary, these metaphysical mechanics shook the cognitive framework of human beings. This study examines the relationship between theory of relativity and quantum mechanics as described by metaphor. I try to examine quantum and the theory of relativity mechanics in “West Running Brook”. This paper claims that integrated thinking ability in consilience raised questions as to our essential principles and gave them new theories. (Incheon National University)
