Abstract

Allergic dermatitis is one of the most common skin diseases. Pathogenically, allergic dermatitis is a delayed hypersensitivity reaction. Allergic dermatitis is provoked by various agents that penetrate the skin. More than 3,500 potential contact allergens were described. The immune response in allergic dermatitis is conventionally characterized by two phases, afferent and efferent. Treatment for allergic dermatitis includes topical and systemic therapies (antihistamines) and physiotherapy. The authors address their experience with the management of patients with allergic dermatitis. Twenty-eight patients were enrolled. The predominant clinical manifestations were erythematous lesions, infiltration, and vesicles associated with itching. All patients received levocetirizine 5 mg daily and topical steroids (methylprednisolone acetate propionate) for 10–15 days. After 2 weeks, this treatment resulted in complete symptom relief. Complex treatment for allergic dermatitis (levocetirizine 5 mg daily and topical steroids) is effective against all clinical symptoms, including itching.
