Abstract
There are no scientific papers devoted to the special research of the functional-semantic category of extreme in Russian linguistic studies, it is only mentioned in passing in some scientific works. This article presents an analytical review of the study of the semantics of extreme in Russian linguistics: for the first time, the author has revealed and systematized the points of view of linguists of the XX-XXI centuries on the problem of the existence of means of expressing the functional-semantic category of extreme, which is considered significant and relevant for the Russian mentality and Russian linguoculture. It is revealed that multilevel language units can transmit the semantics of extreme. The systematization of the obtained data leads the author to the conclusion that some particles, pronouns, conjunctions, phraseological units, as well as combinations of some lexical units are able to express the functional and semantic category of extreme.
