Abstract

Objectives The purpose of the present study was to examine the moderating effect of self-disgust for university students in mediating role of self-objectification between socially prescribed perfectionism and body dysmorphic concerns.
 Methods 364 university students were asked to complete the questionnaires: Korean version of Self-Disgust Scale(K-SDS), Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale(MPS), The Objectified Body Consciousness Scale(OBCS), Body Image Concern Inventory(BICI).
 Results The results were as follows: First, the partial mediating effect of self-objectification on the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and body dysmorphic concerns was found. Second, the significant moderating effect of self-disgust on the relationship between self-objectification and body dysmorphic concerns was found. Third, the moderated mediating effect of self-disgust in the mediation of self-objectification between socially prescribed perfectionism and body dysmorphic concerns was found.
 Conclusions Based on the results, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
