Abstract

The pump is used to raise the lower reservoir water to the upper reservoir. Induction motors are most widely used as driving power for pumps. The induction motor can operate as an induction generator by rotating more than the synchronous speed due to kinetic energy of water in the event of a power outage in a pump facility having potential energy. Both induction motors and induction generators must provide reactive power to produce a rotating field. The capacitors are used to compensate the low power factor of the induction motor and are needed for voltage establishment in case of self-excited induction generators. Capacitor capacity for power factor compensation of induction motors is different from self excited capacitor capacity even when induction generators of the same capacity are used.BR In this study, we analyzed various changes when induction motor equipped with power factor correction capacitor operates as power generator during the power outage.
