Abstract

The aim of the study is to prove the possibility of contrasting Samuel Richardson’s and Charlotte Brontë’s novels in a comparative manner. For the first time in the Russian literary criticism, the possibility of researching the influence of S. Richardson’s works on the formation of Ch. Brontë’s literary taste and her novel creativity is affirmed, which ensures the scientific novelty of the article. The results obtained provide a grounding for a comparative historical study of Samuel Richardson’s and Charlotte Brontë’s novels based on contact, reliance on Ch. Brontë’s letters and direct references to S. Richardson’s novel creativity in the authoress’s novels.
