Abstract
The purpose of this work is to analyze the cultural and historical retrospective of the formation of volunteering in Russia. The authors conduct a study of the specifics of the ideological and spiritual atmosphere and strategies of charitable organizations that have existed since the beginning of the development of Russian civilization. It is noted that the development of volunteer activities has reached a new level after 2009, acquiring new forms and types. The work analyzes the possibilities of uniting the government and the people in the process of volunteer activities in order to overcome the trials that befell Russians in different periods of social development. The theoretical conclusions of the authors are confirmed by the results of applied research conducted on this issue in the sociological laboratory of the Department of Sociology and Social Technologies. The analysis summarized that volunteering is a resource for solving acute social problems, increases the level of civic responsibility, and sets the vector of behavior. Volunteering shapes national ideals and values, unites moral imperatives, which dictates the need for a deeper and more detailed analysis of this phenomenon from the perspective of socio-historical development. As a result, the authors come to the conclusion that modern society needs to improve the behavior model of the younger generation. Thus, volunteer experience is an example of national traditions that have been formed throughout the history of our country. A scientific and critical understanding of the evolution of volunteerism allows us to draw a conclusion about the national identity of the development of volunteerism in Russia. It is the potential for the development of patriotism and citizenship in modern society.
